I have updated many pages on this website. In 2010 I moved to WordPress but this is the first time I’ve really tried to get all of my various dolls onto one website.
I have dolls that had not had profiles added/updated since arrival…the LAST of which was 2013, so you can imagine it needed some work.
Willoughby (Marchen Waltz Ceylon) and Tallulah (Marchen Waltz Elena) are finally added (arrived August 24, 2013)…Nelly (nee Hydrangea, my 2010 RealPuki Roro) got renamed…and I finally looked up Saffron’s exact arrival date (was September 11, 2012).
I have a head on the way that I am excited about…so it was time to organize or reach critical mass of disorganization and vex about it constantly.
Poor Roselynde got a belated “oh hai, let me at least remove you from the closet and gaze upon your fabulousness” this year. Poor thing.
She arrived March 15, 2004.
Lordie do I still adore her.
Very very small and rather insignificant Gallery Entry for this rather momentous event.
…I hate painting lower eyelashes. There, I said it. I never get them right…and though practice makes perfect, it’s humbling to look at a 1/3 completed faceup and realize that I probably like it more now than I will after I’m done and all the little oops-that-wasn’t-quite-rights have happened.
These are my 2 Marchen Waltz heads. Ceylon in white and Elena in normal tone. Very pretty resin with a good heft to it.
I don’t really know why I was feeling that yellow-green on Ceylon…hope I won’t fall out of love with it.
So I might be able to get a Ceylon? There is 1 white resin left…just 1…from how it sounded they won’t be offering the head ever again.
Naked heads! Elena on left…Ceylon on right…both photos by Marchen Waltz.
Just noticed on Ceylon’s page that they recommend 18mm eyes…not sure if I have any, hmmmm.
This head reminds me a bit of the Volks Sato-only MSD F-16…I kind of regret selling mine but just never could get into the child-like mini size doll.
This head, as well as the MSD F-16 have very short chins and permanent downward-glances as a result…not unlike the old Volks F-09 in that regard too…which I think is now F-04? Ugh, I do not know. I hate when numbers get recycled for ‘updated’ doll heads. But I digress.
Marchen Waltz is a newer Korean company (1st DoA thread I find is 2011). As always, upon discovering a new company I find that I have just missed out on the head I adore the most…Ceylon in this case, even though it was just rereleased in June (out of the loops). Elena is a LE available through August 31, 2013.
She’s on an SD10 body in her promo pictures…which I have to say seems a bit “off”, scale-wise, for her? (Resin tone is perfectly matched though, nice.)
I dunno…can you imagine her instead on the new 2013 DollsTown elf body redesign?
The neck would be much more slender and fae (7.8cm on the Elf vs. 9.5cm on the SD10)…giving this heavy-lidded head a rather consumptive visage, especially on the shorter body (the DT Elf body is 53-ish cm with a head, in comparison to the SD10 which is 58 cm).
And oh how I love consumptive puffy-eyed dolls, but y’all probably already know that…
I also think that this head would look great next to Georgianna, my GloryDoll Lucy who wears the “old” DT elf body. (Another 16cm eye head.)
I think I might even have a couple pairs of really lovely DropRops urethane eyes with no current owner…hmm…
To be honest though, my only worry is that petite little nose. I love dolls with big noses. Hers might be “too” sweet? Elf body might counter that since it’s got such interesting proportion and posability…or maybe not…
I’ve long had a love/hate relationship with Mattel. As a kid, Barbie was my favorite…a common enough thing.
When I got back “into” dolls in my 20’s it was both Blythe as well as vintage Mattel Casey/Francie that really roped me back in (because frankly, when I got back “into” dolls I didn’t want to spend $ on Asian Ball-Jointed Dolls). I’ve sold almost all my vintage non-Skipper though…which I really really regret but…c’est la vie.
Anyhow, this month there came Ever After High.
Oh, Mattel…you’ve hit, literally, all the right notes. Adorable characters, perfect styling, nice bodies/jointing, even decent hair (which is often a LOT to ask, unfortunately). Best yet, they can share some things with Monster High. So sure, I’ll get into those too (a couple years too late, but hey, whatever, right?).
These ladies hit Indianapolis on Friday…and I got them yesterday. Figured I’d just really like 1 but no, I had to get all 4. After years of Blythe and Super Dollfie and vintage…it’s refreshing to really fall in love with a doll that is, dare I say it, “affordable.” The faces really remind me not of the aesthetic but of the ethos of the original Volks 4 sister SD heads…these girls share a mold but have different skintones and styling.
I so rarely update this blog…not sure if anyone even reads it. After all, I spend my time running after 2 toddlers, 2 dogs, and maybe a kitten (we’re hand nursing an orphan…each day will be touch and go for quite a while). My free time is largely spent with dirty hands in my garden and my dolls languish in a closet.
Hi :: waves :: I still play with dolls. Really, I do!
These girls are begging to be unboxed but I just do not have the time/energy ATM.
I mean, come on…their boxes are books for goodness’ sakes…books! I die!
My favorite is Madeline Hatter. She’s shorter than the rest (apparently she shares torso/arms but has shorter leg parts). As a shortie myself, I LOVE THIS!
If I had to choose a least favorite I’d say Briar Rose…but her outfit is to die for…
Raven is a-m-a-z-i-n-g as well. I worry that collar might leave facial marks though…she might not be a great one to keep mint in box if you want her to be prettiest.
